David Littlefield describes how the makeover of the Bluecoat arts centre in Liverpool by the Dutch firm Biq represents ‘a robust renewal’. Eschewing a tentative or pared‐back stylised approach, they came out in favour of a ‘solid authenticity’ that is muscular in its material qualities and its insistence on usability.
