Designer Thomas Heatherwick has an international reputation honed by a series of buildings that have audacious formal articulations. These buildings often exhibit the repetition of architectural elements, yet the same base element is used in an almost infinite array of combinations. Here he describes the thoughts, concepts, materiality and surface treatments of his Fosun Foundation building for the Bund Finance Centre in Shanghai.
