Materials testing is fundamental to multidisciplinary collective Assemble's practice. Trialling large‐scale prototypes in the South London workshop space which they share with various other craft makers and artists allows further cross‐disciplinary pollination of ideas through mutual observation. Assemble member Jane Hall sets out how they achieve innovation at low cost through mixing standard components with bespoke elements. Their recent project for the facade cladding of the nearby Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art serves as an example.
