For a capital city, Chisinau displays an unusual proliferation of vernacular architecture – conceived in relation to the natural rather than political landscape. Architect, writer and educator Sandra Parvu examines how the Moldovan government's limited resources to impose urban order have allowed urban rurality to flourish, leading to a harmonious balance between the metropolitan and the pastoral.
