In Seoul, the relentless uniformity of new speculative housing developments is such that it caused the mayor to intervene in 2009 by passing a law requiring differentiation. Hina Jamelle and Ali Rahim of Contemporary Architecture Practice (CAP) in New York describe the research and design work that they have undertaken for Samsung, Korea's largest construction company, to develop a cost‐effective and highly nuanced masterplan that embraces variation.
