Abstract When regarded as a whole, the flows of a city – made up of people, water, energy, information, materials and waste – constitute a large and complex ‘metasystem’. Wolf Mangelsdorf , Head of Structural Engineering at Buro Happold, describes a number of projects that Buro Happold has collaborated on with architects, urban planners and landscape architects that mark a significant shift in the design of urban infrastructures, recognising the importance of the metasystems of flow.
