Agent: an autonomous unit (or entity) that is capable of representation, action and communication. In the field of artificial intelligence, the agent is a robot or computer program that has the ability to perceive its environment, generally via sensors, and to act according to this perception and its rules. There are several types of agents that work in defined environments. A conversational agent is based on algorithms for processing language: this is its domain. Multiagent systems consist of several agents acting together in a given domain (see Distributed Artificial Intelligence).
