This research discusses basic data for lighting design in an aged society. The presented data are the result of an experiment which studied the relation of three parameters: object size (Landolt ring), luminance contrast of target and background, and background luminance. When viewed under the same threshold conditions, the results show that a higher level of brightness is necessary for elderly people than for young people.
