Loss of differentiation and lack of osteoblast marker expression are prominent features of osteosarcoma (OS). Here, we report that the expression of metalloproteinase ADAMTS7 is decreased in OS tissues and associated with adverse OS clinical outcomes. Moreover, we showed ADAMTS7 can bind and degrade cartilage oligomeric matrix protein to induce osteogenic differentiation and inhibit an OS malignant phenotype in a bone morphogenetic protein 2‐dependent manner.
