In this paper, we focus on the characteristics of electromagnetic power of characteristic modes (CMs) for magnetodielectric materials (MDM). A generalized integral form of Poynting's theorem is proposed. Based on the generalized integral form of Poynting's theorem, an explicit formulation for electromagnetic power of traditional volume integral equation‐based CM and Poggio, Miller, Chang, Harrington, Wu, and Tsai‐based CM of homogeneous MDM is presented for the first time. Furthermore, from the concept of electromagnetic power, a novel electromagnetic power‐based CM for MDM is proposed. Numerical results are given to show that the proposed CM is effective in solving scattering problem.
