A non‐aqueous capillary electrophoresis system for separating and detecting antidepressant drugs based on the coupling of capillary electrophoresis separation in acetonitrile and UV detection is described. The system offers a rapid simultaneous measurement in less than 12 min for six priority pyrimidoisoindoles. These antidepressants were detected down to the 2.5×10 –6 –4.2×10 –6 mol/L level, with linearity up to the 1×10 –3 mol/L level examined. A highly stable response was observed for repetitive injections (R.S.D. < 2.6%, n = 12). The influence of pH and content of acetonitrile upon the electrophoretic mobilities was also studied.
