The paper presents mesoscale simulations of textures and microstructures formed during recrystallization. It gives an overview of the method and demonstrates how microstructure and texture simulations can be performed by incorporating realistic input data for the boundary character and for the initial deformation microstructure. Particular attention is placed on the simulation of primary static recrystallization in a deformed aluminum polycrystal on the basis of crystal plasticity finite element data. Various nucleation scenarios are discussed also with respect to macroscopic effects such as friction and shear localization.
