Two different techniques are applied to polymerizations in gas‐phase reactors. Either the overall activity of the catalyst is measured in a stirred bed reactor, or investigations on the scale of single catalyst particles are carried out. In this study, the gas‐phase polymerization of butadiene has been examined. Videomicroscopy is an effective method for the examination of gas‐phase polymerizations using heterogeneous catalysts. The combination of the videomicroscope with a mini‐reactor allows a comparison of the results between two independent measuring methods.
