The present article deals with the development of the expert system WIP ( Wi ssensbasierte P rozessmodellierung = knowledge‐based process modeling) for the configuration of process sequences in the field of process engineering. Initially, the unit operations mixing, heat transfer and conveying are integrated into the system. Attention focuses on the unit operation mixing. The system under study aims to guide and help the recruit with the configuration and selection of suitable gadgets and to support the expert in everyday tasks.
