Coalescence phenomena in extraction columns have been studied to clarify in which zones coalescence occurs and which mechanisms have influence on the coalescence process. In a lab‐scale apparatus with a Venturi tube two test series were realized. It was investigated whether the coalescence of drops is caused by the random movement or by the different rising velocities of drops depending on the droplet size and holdup.
