Thermal analysis (TA) is particulary useful for investigations of gas–solid reactions due to the possibility of simultaneous monitoring of mass changes, thermal effects, and moreover, of composition of gaseous products by means of coupled mass‐spectrometry or Fourier‐transformed infrared spectroscopy. Even its use as laboratory reactor for kinetic investigations of heterogeneous catalysts is conceivable provided a versatile and flexible gas‐controlling device is at hand in order to establish and maintain the desired concentration settings during the experimental run.
