The content of volatile solids (VS‐content [g/kg]) is a sum parameter for the content of organic materials in the digested sludge and it is often used to quantify the digested sludge's biomass. In this study the influence of the VS‐content in digested sludge [g/kg] on its microbiological degradation activity of substrates like cellulose, casein and olive oil and their mixtures is investigated.
