An analytical model for designing filling lines is presented. Allowing for parameters, such as number of machines, capacity of buffers, mean failure time, mean operating time and output of machines, decisive for an optimal performance, the model has proved to be an efficient tool for the evaluation of line layouts and helps to avoid designing failures, like oversizing the machine outputs or buffer capacities.
