The following article focuses on the results of a research study about the emission of pipework flange joints. Five different flange‐gasket combinations, which are of so‐called high quality, were investigated. The results show that all tested combinations meet the demands for high quality joints, but obvious differences between them occur. Especially the surface roughness of the flanges seems to have a great influence on the leak rate.
