Due to extreme process conditions and the size of the reactor, a hydrogenation reactor requires special attention. It must be ensured that combined stresses arising from deformations of various parts of the vessel do not exceed the allowable limits. A complex three‐dimensional finite element analysis of such a hydrogenation reactor has been carried out. A 3‐D finite element model has been developed and comprehensive investigations and calculations with great computational effort have been performed.
