Essential characteristics of metallic materials are determined by the surface structures and their interaction with the metallic base material. In this contribution it is shown that defined oxide compounds with corundum‐ or spinel‐lattice structures form on the surface of iron‐chromium‐nickel materials. From the structural analysis of these oxidic compounds conclusions can be drawn on important technical application characteristics of the metallic alloys investigated.
