This contribution gives an important information about the new designation “Martens Hardness HM” for the “Hardness under test force” (former designation “Universal Hardness HU”). This decision was unanimously approved by the responsible standards comittee ISO/TC 164/SC 3 “Hardness Testing of Metals” during its Meeting on 20/21 June 2000 in Berlin. The hints for using the name “Martens” are also described.
