Classification and Regression Trees (CART) are applied for evaluating prognostic factors in a medical data set of breast cancer patients with metastases. Of essential importance for the medical practice is the assessment of the validity of the tree obtained. As an extention to a resampling‐method suggested by Wernecke et al. (1998), two new algorithms for the validation of classification trees are introduced.
