This paper deals with deflection sensitivity in design of internally ribbed plates by the finite element method. The investigation is based on the general six‐parameter director theory of internally ribbed shells which takes into account shear stresses. Thickness H and width L of the plate were chosen as the design parameters. The sensitivity of the nodal displacement for the design parameters is analysed for different plate thickness, rib height, and H/L ratios (thin or thick plates). The theory presented in this paper enables the analysis of sensitivity for various models of the ribbed (both thin and thick) plate.
