We have studied the behaviour of H α at the RTP‐tokamak in Nieuwegein (NL) and the T2 reversed field pinch in Stockholm (SE). The measured line profile could not be explained by one simple Gaussian or Voigt profile. We saw always more than one line component. This points to different hydrogen populations resp. a continuous range of ion temperatures.
