We present an experimental study on the dynamics of space charge configurations taking place in the inter‐anode space of two electrical glow discharges coupled by a dc biasing voltage of one discharge with respect to the other one in the presence of a small periodic signal. Modelling the system as two coupled perturbed Van der Pol oscillators, we investigate the influence of the coupling strength on the global dynamic response and compare it with experimental data. We find good agreement between the experimental data and the computation results for the following types of analysis: time series, spectra, phase portraits, Lyapunov exponents and correlation dimensions.
