The Tenth International Conference on II–VI Compounds was held in Bremen (Germany) from September 9 to 14, 2001. II–VI semiconductors provide an enormous variety of unique optical, transport (spin) and growth properties. After the interest was focused in the early nineties to the development of blue‐green laser diodes, II–VI research in the beginning of the new century again comprises a much wider field covering basic aspects from semimagnetic properties to coherent dynamics, from multilayer systems to quantum dots and bioconjugates, from infrared to ultraviolet active and passive devices. The scope of the conference covered all aspects of basic and applied research on narrow‐ and wide‐gap II–VI semiconductors. Special emphasis was given to basic physical aspects, new developments, and applications such as solar cells, detectors, and light‐emitting devices.
