The properties of diluted mixed Ising spin system with square lattice are investigated within the framework of an effective‐field theory with correlation. The ground state properties and the finite temperature properties are obtained. Comparing with those for a honeycomb lattice system, we find that for the z = 4 system the ferrimagnetic region is larger, the transition temperature T c is higher, and the range in which the compensation points exist is also larger. That means the system with square lattice may be more useful than the system with honeycomb lattice.
