Abstract Selection rules are summarized for a mutual collision of two Wannier‐Mott excitons which produces one free hole and one free electron. Calculation of probabilities per second of the collision: exciton + exciton → electron + hole in a perfect nonmetallic crystal for slow excitons in 1s and 2p states with isotropic effective mass of electron and hole has been performed assuming that the conduction band minimum and the valence band maximum are localized at the center of the Brillouin zone.
