The reaction of HOC 6 H 4 CH 2 CN ( 1 ), N 3 P 3 (O 2 C 12 H 8 ) 2 (OC 6 H 4 CH 2 CN) 2 ( 2 ), and the random copolymer [{NP(O 2 C 12 H 8 )} 0.55 {NP(OC 6 H 4 CH 2 CN) 2 } 0.2 {NP(OC 6 H 4 CH 2 CN)(OC 6 H 5 )} 0.25 ] n ( 3 ) with the in THF UV‐irradiated precursor CH 3 C 5 H 4 Mn(CO) 2 THF ( 4 ) affords the new compounds CH 3 C 5 H 4 Mn(CO) 2 NCCH 2 C 6 H 4 OH ( 5 ), N 3 P 3 (O 2 C 12 H 8 ) 2 [(OC 6 H 4 CH 2 CN · CH 3 C 5 H 4 Mn(CO) 2 ] 2 ( 6 ), and the copolymer[{NP(O 2 C 12 H 8 )} 0.55 {NP(OC 6 H 4 CH 2 CN · CH 3 C 5 H 4 Mn(CO) 2 ) 2 } 0.2 {NP(OC 6 H 4 CH 2 CN · CH 3 C 5 H 4 Mn(CO) 2 )(OC 6 H 5 )} 0.25 ] n ( 7 ), respectively. The weak σ coordination of the cymantrene toward the nitrile moiety is indicated by spectroscopic data. Thermal analysis of the compounds using DSC and DTA techniques indicates that the incorporation of the organometallic fragment in the copolymer produces promissory material which leaves high amount of residues after pyrolysis. Incorporation of the organometallic fragments to the polymer does not produce an improved conductivity than the insulator polymer without manganese.Schematic structures of the organometallic derivatives 5 and 6 .
