Abstract Novel reactive polymers with condensed benzopinacol moieties in the main chain were synthesized and their acid‐catalyzed pinacol rearrangement in the polymer backbone proceeded to afford poly(benzopinacolone)s quantitatively. Since the pinacol rearrangement shows an intramolecular mechanism, no crossover between the polymer chains was observed through the rearrangement. Although the number‐averaged molecular weights and their distributions were not changed, the optical and thermal properties of the poly(benzopinacolone)s were completely different from the parent poly(benzopinacolone)s.
