The reaction pathway of a monotropic liquid crystalline epoxy resin (HQEP2) was studied using FT‐IR and DSC. The reaction mechanism was correlated with the amine to epoxy ratio, curing temperature and morphology of the curing system. Experimental results showed that the linearly growing molecules lead to a nematogen but branching intermediates induced an isotropic texture.
