Abstract Partly sulfonated polyolefins represent very effective reactive stabilizers for heterophase polymerizations. For instance, under proper chosen conditions, the efficiency of these stabilizers in emulsion polymerization, measured in particle surface area stabilized per gram surfactant, is higher than that for sodium dodecyl sulfate. 1 H NMR measurements prove that the stabilizers will be almost completely covalently bound to the latex particles in the course of the polymerization.
