A simplified version of the Tobita‐Hamielec model expanded by Zhu et al. is shown to be sufficient to describe the network and gel formation in free‐radical copolymerization of vinyl and divinyl monomers. The conversion dependence of the overall pseudo propagation rate constant, which the drastically simplified version still retains, is found to be critical in describing the network and gel formation. A criterion for gel formation is derived and the effects of monomer reaction conditions are investigated.
