A significant increase in yield is observed when DMAD is added to the reaction of 1‐methylimidazole ( 1 ) with aldehydes 2 and diethylmethylsilane in the presence of a catalytic amount of [Ir 4 (CO) 12 ] to produce 2‐(1‐diethylmethylsiloxyalkyl)imidazoles 3 . DMAD=dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate.
