Reversible NO binding in acetonitrile is observed in the non‐heme Fe III complex [Fe(PaPy 3 )(NO)](ClO 4 ) 2 (see scheme). The NO moiety is photolabile, and can dissociate from this complex under very mild conditions. The carboxamido nitrogen donor trans to NO appears to play a crucial role in the observed photolability. (PaPy 3 = N ‐[ N , N ‐bis(2‐pyridylmethyl)aminoethyl]‐2‐pyridinecarboxamide).
