Unexpectedly , oxidation of the coordinated methylhydrazine group in the [Re(CH 3 NHNH 2 )(CO)P 4 ]BPh 4 (P=P(OEt) 3 ) complex by Pb(OAc) 4 at −40°C affords not only the methyldiazene [Re(CH 3 NNH)(CO)P 4 ] + ion, but also the methyleneimine [Re( η 1 ‐NHCH 2 )(CO)P 4 ] + derivative (see scheme), which was isolated and characterized by spectroscopy and X‐ray crystallography.
