An eighty‐year‐old question answered : The basic structural element of monoorganotin acids (see structure) is formed by cyclo ‐tristannoxanes in a chairlike conformation with ligands bonded to the Sn 3 O 3 heterocycle in equatorial positions. The three axial hydroxy groups display a cis arrangement. Thus the fundamental structural element of this class of compounds is elucidated.
