Attempts to model the active sites of [NiFe] hydrogenases have yielded numerous NiFe thiolate complexes but never a species with the characteristic [(RS) 2 Ni( μ ‐SR) 2 Fe(CO)(CN) 2 ] core. The Ni II /Fe II title complex represents the PMe 3 derivative. Its ν(CO) frequency of 1948 cm −1 corresponds to that of 1940 cm −1 for [NiFe] hydrogenase in the Ni–R state.
