A linear arrangement of the P‐N‐B‐N‐P linkage occurs in the unique extended structure of the cation of the borinium salt 1 , which was obtained from the reaction of [ t Bu 3 PN]Li with BCl 3 . The related species ( t Bu 3 PN) 2 BH was also prepared and shown to react with [Ph 3 C][B(C 6 F 5 ) 4 ] to afford the analogous salt [( t Bu 3 PN) 2 B][B(C 6 F 5 ) 4 ]. NMR data and ab initio computations infer that tight ion pairing occurs for 1 in nonpolar solvents.
