The largest discrete cyclic oxothioanion [W 16 S 16 O 16 (OH) 16 (H 2 O) 4 (C 5 H 6 O 4 ) 2 ] 4 − was prepared by acido–basic self‐condensation of the [W 2 O 2 S 2 ] 2+ building block in the presence of glutarate ions [C 5 H 6 O 4 ] 2− . The solid‐state characterization (X‐ray diffraction) revealed two conformations for the templated‐ring which can be viewed as two snapshots of the dynamic of the wheel in solution (see picture). The ion was also characterized in aqueous solution by 1 H NMR and Raman spectroscopies.
