Severe inward bending of the aromatic planes is observed in the argentocyclophane [Ag 0.5 (btp) 0.5 (ClO 4 ) 0.5 ] (see schematic diagram; the ClO 4 − ions are omitted). This is in contrast to the outward bending of organic cyclophanes. Stacking of the chains along the c axis results in interplanar and interchain π–π interactions and electrical conductivity. btp=1,2‐benztriphenylene.
