A slightly distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry is seen in the first fully characterized five‐coordinate hypervalent boron compounds ( 2 ; Ch=O, S; X=H, OMe). Lithiation of the new versatile tridentate ligand precursor 1 bearing an anthracene skeleton followed by the addition of a B ‐chlorocatecholateborane enabled three examples of 2 to be isolated and their structures to be determined by X‐ray analysis.
