An Al/N adamantanyl frame with three of its Al 3 N 3 faces capped by Li (see picture; E=NPh) forms the core of the title anion. Formation of the charge‐separated species, and the unique arrangement adopted by the cage atoms is rationalized through analysis of its solid‐state structure and by ab initio calculations.
