Hydrogen‐atom abstraction by hydroxyl radicals takes place to generate both tert ‐ and sec ‐adamantyl radicals in Gif‐type oxygenation of adamantane by H 2 O 2 in pyridine/trifluoroacetic acid when the reaction is mediated by [Fe(O 2 CCF 3 ) 2 (py) 4 ] or [Fe 2 O(O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 (py) 6 ], which are formed by dissociation of [Fe 3 O(O 2 CCF 3 ) 6 (L) 3 ] in pyridine (L=H 2 O, DMSO; see scheme).
