The bis(butadiene)rhodium( I ) complexes [Rh( s‐cis‐ η 4 ‐C 4 H 6 ) 2 (PR 3 )]A readily convert into the isomeric octadienediyl derivatives [Rh( η 3 : η 3 ‐C 8 H 12 )(PR 3 )]A , which are apparently intermediates in the rhodium‐catalyzed cyclotetramerization reaction of butadiene. R= i Pr, Cy; A=OSO 2 CF 3 , B[3,5‐(F 3 C) 2 C 6 H 3 ] 4 ; the structure of the complex with i Pr and OSO 2 CF 3 is shown.
