The intramolecular transfer of the allyl group of functionalized allyl aryl ethers to an aldehyde group in the presence of Ni 0 complexes was studied from chemical, electrochemical and theoretical points of view. The chemical reaction involves the addition of Ni 0 to the allyl ether followed by stoichiometric allylation. The electrochemical process is catalytic in nickel and involves the reduction of intermediate η 3 ‐allylnickel( II ) complexes.
