Das fehlende Bindeglied zwischen der Disauerstoff‐ und der Peroxid‐Chemie des Vanadiums ist ein Superoxovanadium( V )‐Komplex. Diese Spezies ist das erste identifizierte Reaktionsintermediat der oxidativen Umwandlung eines Peroxovanadium( V )‐Komplexes in einen Vanadyl( IV )‐Komplex und molekularen Sauerstoff (siehe Schema). Auch bei der Bildung des Peroxovanadium( V )‐Komplexes spielt dieses Intermediat eine entscheidende Rolle.
