Die eindeutige Zuordnung der 3 d σ *→4 p σ ‐Metall‐Metall‐Übergänge anhand spektroskopischer und struktureller Untersuchungen belegt die Existenz cuprophiler Cu I ⋅⋅⋅Cu I ‐Wechselwirkungen in diskreten zweikernigen, Diphosphan‐verbrückten Cu I ‐Komplexen (siehe Bild). Die an den Cu I ‐Zentren beobachtete Lumineszenz hängt in erster Linie von den Metall‐Ligand‐Bindungen ab.
