The reaction of the mono‐functional closo ‐silsesquioxane derivative Cy 7 Si 8 O 12 Cl ( 2 , Cy = c ‐C 6 H 11 ) with liquid ammonia afforded the first aminosilsesquioxane Cy 7 Si 8 O 12 NH 2 ( 4 ) in nearly quantitative yield. The trimethylsilylaminosilsesquioxane Cy 7 Si 8 O 12 NHSiMe 3 ( 5 ) was subsequently prepared by the reaction of 4 with chlorotrimethylsilane in the presence of triethylamine, while hydrolysis of 4 gave the silanol 3 . A 1:1 reaction of 2 and 4 in the presence of triethylamine produced the novel bis(silsesquioxanyl) amine (Cy 7 Si 8 O 12 ) 2 NH ( 7 ). Treatment of 2 with N , N , N′ , N′ ‐tetramethylguanidine and 1, 3‐di‐ o ‐tolylguanidine in a molar ratio of 1:2 afforded the corresponding imino‐substituted silsesquioxanes 8 and 9 .
